“THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CHANGED MY LIFE IN SO MANY WAYS.
NOT ONLY HAVE I FOUND A GYM, BUT A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE TREATED ME LIKE FAMILY AND ARE ALWAYS ENCOURAGING.
MY SON HAS FOUND SOMETHING HE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT AND A SAFE PLACE FOR HIM TO GO.
WITHOUT THE ALWAYS FORWARD SCHOLARSHIP, I WOULD NOT BE ON THE JOURNEY TO HEALTH THAT I AM NOW.”

"I started crossfit as a last resort to save myself..."
“I started CrossFit pretty much as a last resort to save myself. I had been struggling with an eating disorder for about 2 years, with no hope in sight. I ate according to how much I exercised. If I didn’t exercise, I didn’t eat. Mentally and physically I was drained of life. I lost my hair, I stopped having a period, and I ended up losing 30lbs within a 5-month span. I had been working out on my own the whole time, with absolutely no support or community, which got to be one of the most painful and lonely points in life. Out of nowhere, the idea of going to CrossFit popped into my head. I thought maybe doing this would help me lose even more weight. I know… terrible thought, but that was the dark place I was in. I was trying to do whatever I could to ‘help’ myself. After a few weeks of starting CrossFit, my mindset changed drastically. The community began showing me what true health looked like. Exercise soon became a way to celebrate what my body was capable of instead of a means to eat. I can’t describe exactly what caused the shift in mindset, or even when, but I can tell you that I noticed a difference when I was able to enjoy Christmas cookies that year! If I hadn’t spontaneously decided to join Mossy Creek Fitness, I don’t know that I would have the freedom I do today.”

"I could barely tie my own shoes and was about to lose my job because of my health..."
“I am 50 years old, and I started my health journey weighing 400 lbs and with an 8.3 A1C. I could barely tie my own shoes and was about to lose my job because of my health. In the first month of attending Mossy Creek Fitness 4 to 5 days a week, I lost 20 lbs dropped my A1C down to 6.8, and kept my job! After another 5 more months, I lost an additional 25 lbs., A1C dropped to 5.8, and I can easily tie my shoes. I’m not going to lie, I was very intimidated and scared when I first came in. Never been to a gym before and was afraid of judgment. Surprise there is none of that here. Everyone and I do mean everyone, other gym members, trainers, staff, owners, are all extremely supportive and willing to help you any way they can. Don’t worry if you can’t do the subscribed workout that is the most beautiful thing about CrossFit, it is infinitely scalable. All the trainers are extremely knowledgeable and will help you with your modifications. Since every day is a set class you don’t have to think about or remember much just come and work out. This could change your life.”
"We each have our own battles. My health battles happen to be mostly invisible..."
“The benefits for me from CrossFit are immense. It has made me stronger, better coordinated, and boosted my confidence. But above all, I work out for my brain. At first, I just went to classes twice a week, since I am also in a martial arts class two days of the week. But as I saw how much it helped me mentally, it increased to 3 times, and now is often 4 days a week. I have ADHD with comorbid anxiety and also deal sporadically with depression. We each have our own battles, and my health battles happen to be mostly invisible. My executive functioning skills simply do not work as well due to a very low amount of dopamine in my brain. When I work out, my level of dopamine increases, one of the neurotransmitters released especially with intense cardio workouts like CrossFit. This causes me to be more focused and just more mentally balanced and happy. I have been to 24 hour gyms, but for someone who finds time management challenging, having scheduled classes is ideal, as well as having a structured workout already in place. With my busy schedule, and all of the benefits to my mind and body, I can’t afford to not work out-it has made such a huge difference for me.”
